The primary season for 2010 has begun in earnest. From across the State and throughout SW Florida political hopefuls have been collecting ballot petitions, raising money and honing their campaign speeches. I've been busy working to arrange for our members to get a chance to meet each of the viable candidates who have tossed their hats into the ring. I feel the best service I can offer is to get you face to face with the people who are asking for our votes. We need to hear what they have to say, ask them about their positions on GLBT issues and then hold them accountable for action once they are elected.
For this meeting I have arranged for both Democratic candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat currently held by Republican Connie Mack IV (District 14). Those candidates are Robert Neeld and James Roach. Each will be given an opportunity to speak to us and then answer your questions. Here are links to their campaign websites:

I will be attending OUT-Fest, the State GLBT Democratic Caucus winter conference in St. Pete and will give a quick recap of what I learned about our parent organization's plans for the 2010 election cycle. We will also be holding a 50/50 raffle.

You may have noticed that I have taken the April 10, 2010 date for SWFL Pride Fest off our club calendar. The Pride Board of Directors voted to postpone the Festival for now. There will be another meeting prior to ours so hopefully Laura will have good information to share on what is certain to be another great event for our community.
